Under Construction

When I started this blog, it was pre-Covid, and my goals and needs were very different from what they are now. I considered reshaping the whole look of Her First Role Model but changed mind. Instead I plunged right into creating new posts. And that feels so good! Do you ever just want to plunge in and figure out the right swimming strokes after getting wet? I certainly don’t recommend this approach to all of life’s goals, but in this case I think it’s just right.

I have been contemplating the next steps for Her First Role Model for over a year, but most seriously since 2025 arrived. I considered writing a trove of posts so I would have material to post consistently. I considered changing the title and writing a new introduction page. Looking at all the pictures, I realized that my family has changed so much. My daughter is nearly 5’8 now, and I have more gray hairs and smile wrinkles around my eyes. Beyond the physical, there have been emotional ones as well. Goals have shifted, and dynamics are different. So it just made the most sense to starting writing and posting along the way.

The primary change will be the absence of interviews. When I started Her First Role Model, I saw myself as a curator, gathering together voices of girl moms and soliciting their best advice for parenting strong willed and courageous girls. At the time I needed the advice, and believed that it would be better to get it from those who have gone before me and women I both trusted and admired. And it proved that: exactly what I needed.

My needs have changed. I probably still need advice and wisdom from other moms, but more than anything I need to trust my mothering style, embrace the moment and share both the joys and challenges of my mothering journey. And to be the best mother for my daughter, I have had to look deeper into myself and make peace with where I’ve been and where I need to go.

So if the posts of Her First Role Model look different going forward, you know why. I hope you enjoy and find value in what you find here. I invite you to use the stories and reflections as a mirror for your own growth and journey. Whether a mom or not, there will be pieces you can relate to and others that will appear so foreign. So take what you need and leave the rest. Thank you for supporting Her First Role Model and may it bless your life.
